Above
monumental inscription was found near
Eski Kahta on the River Nymphaios (present
day Kahta Çayı), by Professor Dörner of
Münster University and it states that
this site was chosen by his father as
his "Hierotheseion", or sacred
last resting place. The King Antiochos
Epiphones, father of Laodike mentioned
in the inscription, is Antiochos VII Philometor
(Grypos), one of the later Kings of the
Seleucid Dynasty, who was assassinated
in 96 B. C.

DAYS
ADIYAMAN, URFA

DAY
1 - ADIYAMAN
Meeting at Adıyaman Airport and drive directly
to Eski Kahta to see a tumulus where the
royal womenfolk were buried. The three Doric
columns on its southern side are each surmounted
by a statue of an animal : one by a lion,
another by an eagle. Next stop will be the
smart Roman Bridge of Cendere spanning the
Cendere Çay, a branch of the Kahta Clay
(the Nymphaios), was erected, according
to a Latin inscription on columns, by four
Commagenian cities in honor of Septimius
Severus, his wife Julia Domna and his sons
Caracalla and Geta. The four columns
originally stood in two pairs on either
side of the bridge, but the one set
up in honor of Geta is missing. Probably
it was removed after Geta
was murdered by his brother Caracalla.
Arsameia and the Mount Nemrud will be the
last highlights of the
day. Following the sun-set on Mount Nemrud,
we will return to our
hotel for dinner and overnight (L, D).
DAY
2 - URFA
Following breakfast, we will drive to
Urfa and stop by Atatürk Dam. We will
visit the
Mosque of Halil-ül-Rahman, Covered Bazaar,
(old shopping center) and the Gümrük Han.
Dinner and overnight at the hotel (B,
L, D).
DAY
3 - URFA
Following early breakfast, we drive to
Harran which is a remarkable sight with
the dome shaped houses constructed by
mudbricks. Harran is unique and very interesting
sight for the architectural point of view.
We will also visit the ancient ruins of
Harran and return to Urfa for dinner and
overnight (B, L, D).
DAY 4 - ISTANBUL
Transfer to airport for flight back to
Istanbul (B).
